Get your taxes done using TurboTax
Hi Kat. Thanks for answering. I'm sorry, but I am new to this, and I wasn't clear. Please let me try again.
When I said the IRS "corrected" my return, I mean that they sent me a notice indicating that they have reduced my charitable deductions because it was figured incorrectly or the amount was not limited by my AGI. The notice says I owe a substantial (for me) sum instead of getting a refund, and the sum is due soon. The problem was rooted in the fact that TT did not properly indicate my qualified contribution election (to permit >60% of AGI contributions to be deductible). As I mentioned, the TT software defect has since been corrected, and now if I re-open TT, my election is noted on Schedule A line 11 per IRS rules. That is with no change having been made to my tax data - just updates to the TT software. So, I thought an acknowledgement by Intuit that the root of the problem was their software issue might be helpful as I try to avoid paying the additional taxes and interest (and penalties?) and then having to try to recover them later.
