Get your taxes done using TurboTax

When you verify your 2020 return for efiling, you have a choice of using the prior-year AGI method or the prior-year Self-Select PIN method.
You don't need the 5-digit prior-year Self-Select PIN if you verify your efile with the 2019 AGI using the 2019 AGI field. Most people don't verify with the prior-year PIN, but use the more common 2019 AGI method instead.
Do you have a copy of your 2019 return? If so, the 2019 AGI is on the Form 1040, Line 8b.
That being said, there is a way to get the 5-digit 2019 Self-Select PIN if you have or can download a PDF copy of your 2019 return with all the worksheets. It is on a page called "Federal Information Worksheet" and located down near the bottom.
If you need the 2019 AGI and can't find your 2019 return, we can help you find it if you used Online TurboTax. Otherwise, to get the 2019 AGI you could download a free 2019 tax return transcript at the IRS website or order one to come by mail.
In either case, after using one of those methods to verify the efile, on yet another screen the program will also ask you to choose a new Self-Select PIN (it will say any 5 digits of your choosing, so someone can use the same one again, if they know it and want to.) It will ask you to choose one on a page called Signature ID that also has you verify your birth date and today's date. That Self-Select PIN you choose on that screen can be used next year (if you save it) when you efile your 2021 return instead of the prior-year AGI, if desired.
