When you verify your return for efiling, you have a choice of using the prior-year AGI method or the prior-year Self-Select PIN method.
You don't need the 5-digit prior-year Self-Select PIN if you verify your efile with the 2019 AGI using the 2019 AGI field. Most people don't verify with the prior-year PIN, but use the more common 2019 AGI method instead.
In either case, on another screen the program will also ask you to choose a new Self-Select PIN (it will say any 5 digits of your choosing, so someone can use the same one, if they know it and want to.) It is on a page called Signature ID that also has you verify your birth date and today's date. That new Self-Select PIN you choose can be used next year (if you save it) when you efile your 2021 return instead of the prior-year AGI, if desired.
That being said, there is a way to get the 2019 Self-Select PIN if you have or can download a PDF copy of your 2019 return with all the worksheets. It is on a page called "Federal Information Worksheet" and located down near the bottom.
