Get your taxes done using TurboTax
If you filed before the tax law changed or before the software was updated for the change, you can get a refund from the IRS for the federal tax withheld on the first $10,200 of unemployment. The IRS is sending out those refunds without you having to amend for it.
If you filed AFTER the software was updated, you do not look on line 8 of your Form 1040. You look on line 8 of Schedule 1---it is one of the extra schedules included with Form 1040.
If you are eligible for the extra refund for federal tax that was withheld from your unemployment the IRS will be sending you an additional refund sometime during the next several months. TurboTax cannot track or predict when it will be sent. The IRS has not provided a way for you to track it, so all you can do is wait for the refund to arrive.
