@oaktree200  You can do that if you wish.  TurboTax is not deducting your Louisiana Tax due from your Federal Refund, however.  What you are seeing is a report of the net result.  You may file as you state.  You might have to set up your state payment with the state if you file now and wish to wait to pay closer to June 15.

 

One of the biggest misconceptions is that if you owe, you can wait until the filing deadline to file because that is when you will pay.  That's only partially true.  Your deadline to pay does not change no matter when you file.  If you file in January, your pay deadline is the same (June 15th in this case).  So it really makes sense to go ahead and file now so you don't risk something happening and you can't file on time for some reason.  You still don't have to pay until the deadline:  June 15.
