Big thanks to the community. Changing the date from "Various" to 12/31/20 fixed the error. Interesting enough, "Various" worked OK in the past with e-file. And it has always worked with paper returns ;). Intuit may want to remove the option to choose "Various" if IRS no longer approves it.
