Get your taxes done using TurboTax

And that like takes me back to where I was.  Yeah!!!!

This is a confusing thread since it goes back 3 years, is cluttered with multiple users, and has some info from 3 years ago that is no longer true today.   I'll tell you the correct method to use in my answer.

You haven't described your situation, but since you are in this thread, I'll assume you are using TurboTax IRS Free File Program and find you don't qualify and want to switch back to regular Online TurboTax in the same account without starting over.    My steps below tell how to do that without ending up in that loop.   Follow the steps exactly.

Print the following steps out to use for guidance so you can exit this forum.

  • First log out of all Intuit accounts, including this forum.
  • Then you need to clean your browser using one of these two methods:
Delete your browser Internet cache and any Intuit-related cookies.
Or instead of doing that, you can try using a private window (aka private browsing/incognito mode.)
  • Close your browser and reopen it (either after browser cache and Intuit cookies were cleaned as above, or in a private window.)
  • Go directly to this specific page:   https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/compare/online/
  • IMPORTANT:  When you arrive there, do NOT sign in yet.
  • Choose the product you want like you hadn't even started a return before, and click on "Start for Free".
  • It will ask how you did your taxes last year.  Say "TurboTax", and then it will ask you to sign in.
  • When you log in, and try to proceed with your selected product, it should recognize that you had recently been using the IRS Free File Program and should ask you if you want to switch to a TurboTax commercial product and not use the IRS Free File Program anymore.   Say "yes".
  • Hopefully, that will put you back in regular Online TurboTax in the same account while keeping your originally-entered info.
