I believe you will find that if you change methods, then you will have an issue as changing methods requires IRS consent. Very few people use the "Standard" method, most use the "Simplified" method. I efiled successfully using Simplified so I know it can be done. OK, took 8 tries for me to get all the bugs worked out, but it worked.
The difficulty is there are other errors in your Form 1099-DIV that TT does not recognize as errors but the IRS treats them as errors when you try to efile. Read my earlier composite (Foxbat) post from a week ago to see how to debug the problem. Mostly it is in 1099-DIV Box 8 where the problem begins, but as the post explains there are other areas that can give you issues in the Form 1116 that prevent efiling -- but are correctable by we as TT users. The solution requires a very close detailed review to make sure you get it right.
