Get your taxes done using TurboTax
@ kbijwaard wrote:I have TurboTax 2020 Premier for Windows (Win10). I've noticed the 2019 tax information that was uploaded to compare to my current return has errors. For example, the total interest is several hundred dollars higher than is indicated on last years return and when TT2020 asks me to enter the capital losses carryover, the amount that comes up as a loss is actually a positive number on my 1040 from last year (line 16). How can I delete the 2019 data and re-upload it without starting over from scratch?
I don't know any explanation for your 2019 information that transferred into 2020 being inaccurate unless you ended up with more than one *.tax2019 data file last year and transferred the wrong one into 2020. For example, I don't know why that 2019 transferred interest amount would be different than what you show on your 2019 return. Search your entire computer system to see if you have more than one *.tax2019 data file. You may have started more than one 2019 return file last year, such as for testing purposes, or perhaps you started one over as a different tax file.
Or did you manipulate the 2019 data file after you filed last year? i.e., after you filed last year, did you do any experimenting with various scenarios that could have soiled your 2019 data file and left it with incorrect figures?
You cannot transfer the *.tax2019 data file again unless you start a brand new 2020 return. You can only transfer 2019 data at the beginning.
I don't understand what you mean by "when TT2020 asks me to enter the capital losses carryover". If you transferred 2019 data into 2020, that topic usually doesn't require any entries by the user. The capital loss carryover entries from 2019 should transfer in from the *.tax2019 data file automatically.
Do you still have the 2019 software installed? If so, I would launch 2019 TurbotTax and open the *.tax2019 tax data file and review the 2019 return to see if the 2019 data file is accurate and reflects the return that you filed last year.
As for your 2020 return, if you want to see what transferred in from 2019, open your 2020 return. Click at the top of the TurboTax screen on the TOOLS menu and in the dropdown menu choose MY TAX DATA. Click the SOURCE column header a time or time until everything is sorted by "Transfer". Then you'll see the figures that transferred in, including specific lines from the 2019 Carryover Worksheet.
