Why doesn't the IRA accept my return?
Hi, my 20 year old son filed himself using TT Online for the first time. He put himself down incorrectly *not* as a dependent of me (which he is). He made one amendment online which was accepted. Two weeks later we corrected his dependency status which was accepted.
The problem: TT Deluxe Desktop still gives this error message when I try to submit my return (with my son listed as a dependent):
IND-517-01 - A Dependent SSN in the return must not be the same as the Primary or Spouse SSN on another return where 'PrimaryClaimAsDependentInd' or 'SpouseClaimAsDependentInd' is not checked.
It's as if the IRS doesn't have the latest return of my son, even though TT Online says "Accepted".
Any ideas how to proceed? Do I have to file my son's second amended return via paper (even though TT Online made the amendment online?)
Thanks in advance!
