My family is the same size, lives in same zip code with same sales tax rate as 2019. Family income is 3K greater but sales tax deduction per 2020 tables is less. Why?
Phenomenon is confirmed using TT and the IRS sales tax deduction calculator. Income is in the same IRS range but is 3K higher than 2019. We are well below the 10K threshhold so that doesn't come into play. Family size is the same, zip code is the same, and local sales tax rate is the same as 2019. With all this, I expected the sales tax deduction to be slightly higher in 2020 than 2019. Instead it came out less. Can anyone explain this? Is this some kind of arbitrary tax hike imposed by the IRS?
