Get your taxes done using TurboTax
When I started to implement this approach, I was frustrated that it wanted me to re-enter the info that I had already entered into TurboTax (in fact, I could pull up the 1099-NEC and verify the info). I decided to cancel the Schedule C manual re-entry approach ad call the help line again. I had already worked for about an hour apiece on 3 different days with 3 different TurboTax customer service reps who had me try everything else including repeatedly deleting and re-inputting both the 1099 info and the entire business! On my 4th call, talking with a supervisor, he walked me through much of the same delete-reentering, but always was asked to "review" the business (which only had 1 1099, a few miles, nad no other expenses). At that point, TurboTax started having me fill out an IRS-style form regarding my mileage deduction, and forced me to aswer a bunch of questions about a car that I no longer own. After entering zeros everywhere, the tax form submitted without being forced to "review" the business with the suspected problematic 1099... ???
I just thought I should post this since it seems like TurboTax has bugs that trigger weird fatal failures that neither this community or their paid Customer Service people are aware of! A similar situation arose a couple years ago where they eventually gave me a free consultation with a CPA expert, who decided that the software had a bug. I appreciate y'all trying to help, but even if you were right, ALL of the info on the Schedule C had already been entered into TurboTax, and the whole point of using TurboTax is to be guided into entering all the relevant info without having to fill out IRS forms like the Schedule C! The program is buggy, and there is no way to get to talk with the people who might really know what's going on... though I was certainly put on hold a lot for my rep to make lengthy calls to the real experts trying to resolve the issue...
