@Cfaithn The IRS has lots of databases, and they do not necessarily talk to each other. There's a similar issue with the 2019 AGI needed to efile 2020. Many taxpayers have gotten this number directly off a transcript provided by the IRS, but then the IRS doesn't recognize it when they try to efile 2020.
In all fairness to the IRS, Congress has continued to pile task after task on the agency in a short period of time, but given them no additional funding to accomplish them.
The IRS Economic Impact Payment phone number is 800-919-9835. You can call to speak with a live representative about your stimulus check. Be prepared to sit on hold, though. If the automated responses can't answer your questions and you'd like to talk to a live operator, you may join a long waiting list.
