Get your taxes done using TurboTax
To report the money gift from your church for your volunteering, report this as other income.
In TurboTax Online:
- From the left menu, go to Federal and select the first tab, Wages & Income
- Add more income by scrolling down to the last option, Less Common Income, and Show more
- Scroll down to the last option, Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C and Start
- Choose the last option, Other reportable income and Start and Yes
- Enter the applicable description and amount and Continue
In TurboTax CD/Download:
- Select PERSONAL tab.
- Select Personal Income and I'll choose what I work on.
- Scroll down to the last category, Less Common Income.
- Select Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C and Start.
- At Let's Work on Any Miscellaneous Income scroll down to Other Reportable Income and select Start and Yes.
- At Other Taxable Income, enter a description naming the Payer and enter the amount and Continue and Done.
Mileage and travel expenses are entered in the Charitable Deductions area. Start by selecting Donations to Charity in 2020 to see the option.
However, all donations must be reduced by the amount of the gift. Only the portion of the donation that is greater than the amount of this benefit would be deductible.
