A 1099-NEC is for Non-employee compensation. Enter it following these steps:
- Federal
- Wages and Income
- Income from Form 1099-NEC
- Enter the name of the person or company who paid you, the federal ID number and the amount in Box 1
- Then enter the reason why you received the 1099-NEC
- Answer the next question about the 1099-NEC and whether you have expenses to deduct
If this is associated with a business, select the business
- If this was for a business, go to Self-employment income and expenses
- Select the business, and then answer the questions until you get to
- OK. Let's get the deductions unique to your work
- Check the box for any type of expense that you had
Check less common expenses to see a complete list - Add any other income for the work
- Add expenses for the work
- Answer the questions and then run the audit assessment for the work
