Make sure you indicate the child lived with you all year (this is the correct choice for a newborn). Also, the child must have a valid social security number. (If you have applied for an SSN and have not received it, don't file until you have it, even if it makes you late. Be sure to get the automatic extension. If you file without the SSN, and then amend later, the additional tax benefits won't be paid.)
