Get your taxes done using TurboTax

My question is similar. My husband annually receives a benefit from his worker's union that is basically the cost of the benefit that is provided free by the union. It's reported on 1099-MISC. He is retired now, but has always received this benefit even when he was still working.

I entered the 1099-MISC by going to Other Income and selecting 1099-MISC. Because it didn't fall into the other categories (farm income or other income like prize winnings), it prompted me whether he received it in prior years and expects it this year or if it is just this year. As soon as I indicate he has received it in prior years and expects it next year, it begins treating it as self-employment income, and TurboTax prompts me to answer questions related to self-employment income that aren't relevant and don't make sense for this type of income.

With the help of one TurboTax Live's accountants, I deleted the Schedule C, which seemed to work at first. We looked at the Federal Review, and there were no issues. However, I have since added self-employment income of my own, and now I keep getting a flag on Box 3 that wants a Schedule C for my husband's 1099-MISC. It's income, but not self-employment income, and I can't seem to get around this. Any suggestions?
