My Alabama State E-File is being rejected because of Code - AL40-050. I think this is because one of my W-2s has no state tax withholding information. How can I fix this?
My File is being rejected for the State of Alabama E-file because of the following error - "AL40-050 - This return could not be processed for electronic filing by the state. Alabama Department of Revenue has returned the file with the following message: "Total Alabama Wages, Form 40 Pg. 1, line 5, must equal the total amount of all State Wages (including Wages Earned Out of State) as reported in Box 16 of the Federal 1040 W-2. Note: plus/minus /- $3.00 variance allowance has been added to allow for rounding errors."
I've double checked the wages listed on my federal and state documents and they match. The only irregularity I can find is that my wife received a second W-2 Statement from her Federal Employer via a separate organization which had paid her moving expenses, they withheld Federal income tax, and left the state information blank as they had not withheld state income tax.
I printed both files, double checked them, and all income is properly listed and matching between the Federal Return and the State Return. We have never earned any income out of state, and all wages were paid while living and working in the State of Alabama.
