I assume you are using a Windows PC. I don't have a way to reproduce that problem in order to try things, but this is what I would do if it were happening to me:
Have you tried playing with the scaling setting in addition to lowering the screen resolution? If it's set at 125%, for instance, then try 100%. If necessary, also test other screen resolutions. I don't know what resolution you tried. If it was 800x600, then try the next higher one, such as 1024x768, etc. i.e., try different combinations of scaling and screen resolution.
