The interview still does that.
If you got a 1099-NEC in addition to a W-2, from the same employer, TurboTax completes form 8919 (to pay your share of FICA tax) and that's all that's required.
If you got a 1099-NEC instead of a W-2, TT will complete the 8919 and then advise you to complete form SS-8 and mail it to the IRS before filing your tax return. TT does not prepare or file SS-8.
