I am married but my non-US citizen spouse lives outside the US
Below is the summary of the situation. Turbotax doesn't seem to offer an option to file with such details. When I try to file as married, it asks for my spouse's information such as SSN which she doesn't have, and I can't proceed any further. How should I file my tax return?
- I am a US citizen and lives and works in the US.
- My spouse is a non-US citizen, has no immigration status (= no SSN), lives and works outside the US. No income from a US based company.
- We don't live together (= not in the same household).
- We share no tax or health benefits.
In nutshell, we are married but share nothing in terms of finance, equity, physical presence, and benefits.
