TurboTax does not actually transmit returns to the IRS. The IRS connects to the data warehouse where TurboTax stores its returns and downloads them. I believe the technical IRS term is “drains” the returns. TurboTax has no control over when your particular return is drained. It should be within 48 hours of the opening of return processing. Delays at the IRS have happened before, although I have not heard of any delays yet this season.
