Get your taxes done using TurboTax

Your stimulus payment is based on your 2020 return. You are due $1,200 per taxpayer and $500 for each dependent under age 17 for the first payment and $600 for each taxpayer and dependent under age 17 for the second payment.

If you received any payments, you subtract that amount from the amounts listed above and that is what is due you on your 2020 tax return.

So, it is possible to receive more that you were entitled to, if your tax returned changed with respect to the taxpayer and dependents listed on it. If so, you won't be required to pay back the excess.

So, your 2019 tax return doesn't have anything to do with your stimulus payment, except with regard to the amount of money you received already.
