Get your taxes done using TurboTax
@macuser_22 Thanks!
Since my wife and I are filing jointly, form 1040 line 15 on our return reflect both our incomes. Should I only input my individual income (I am listed first in our joint return) rather than what's on our 1040 line 15 as instructed?
Thanks to @Opus 17's advice, I was able to print out my daughter's return without filing. Below is a screenshot of form 8615 from my daughter's return. It seems that there's something wrong in Part III. Line 15 says "Enter the tax on the amount in line 14 based on the child's filing status." Line 14's amount is $1,344, yet line 15 says the tax would be $1,804. This is then added to the $3,368 tentative tax rate based on parent's rate from Part II, on line 16, resulting in the $5,172 total tax amount.
Tax on $1,344 would only be $134, which should appear on line 15. Instead, notice that line 15 and line 17 have the same $1,804 figure. It looks like TurboTax is not properly calculating line 15, which should be based on line 14 (not line 4, as line 17 is based on).
