Get your taxes done using TurboTax

Even if you didn't receive form 1099DIV, you still need to report the dividend income on your return. Enter the dividend income as if you had 1099-DIV form.

  1. Login to your account.
  2. Select Federal from the left menu.
  3. Go to Wages and Income then Income and Expense
  4. Scroll down to Interest income and select 1099-DIV
  5. Enter the payer name and Box 1a, Total Ordinary Dividends.

Dividends can be classified either as ordinary or qualified. Whereas ordinary dividends are taxable as ordinary income, qualified dividends that meet certain requirements are taxed at lower capital gain rates. IRS.gov
