The issue is that I purchased a TurboTax Premier 2020 CD and installed it on my desktop. It did not ask me to log into my account during installation. So it was never associated with my account. Later when my son tries to download using my license code on his laptop (which has no CD drive), he gets error message that "The license code has already been associated with an account". He gets this error message even if he logs into my account and tries to download. It appears that when a CD is first used, TurboTax associates the download to some default account that does not belong to that specific user. So unless the CD is used, we cannot download using the license code, which is not helpful when the laptop has no CD drive.
I spent over 1 hour 45 minutes with a clueless phone representative, who finally disconnected without telling me. When I google on this error message, I can see that it was reported in past 2 years and TurboTax has not bothered to fix the issue.
