Get your taxes done using TurboTax
The IRS issues an IP PIN to confirmed victims of identity theft.
If your tax return has been e-filed and does not include your 6 digit IP PIN, the return will be rejected when it is transmitted to the IRS. The 6 digit IP PIN can be added by these steps:
- Down the left side of the screen, click Federal.
- Across the top of the screen, click Other tax situations.
- Scroll down to Identity Protection PIN.
- Click Start to the right.
- Enter 6 digit IP PIN.
- Correct other reject issues, if any.
- Re-transmit.
The 6 digit Identity Protection Select PIN will be required whether you e-file or mail your tax return.
Please see this IRS publication to see how to retrieve your IP PIN.
