Yes, you can still e-file even though your box 14 amount is higher than the maximum. Given that you have said this, I am assuming that this is a withholding from your earned income that does have a "ceiling limit" on it. This will happen sometimes if you have more than one employer and they are not aware that you are also paying into that "fund" via another employer. Since you've stated that you only have one employer, I wonder if the item listed in box 14 could be attributable to something else (for example, union dues, etc.). Depending on what the amount source is having this withholding implemented would determine who you contact in order to request a refund of that overpayment. I would need more information on what that amount pertains to in the box 14 in order to better assist you on this. But, yes, you can still e-file. It should not be preventing you from doing so. It will give you an alert to make sure that you've entered the correct amount into the system from your W2 but again that should not be preventing you from e-filing.
