There is no way to stop the transmission of your returns once you click on the orange Transmit My Returns button.
If you were not yet ready to file your state taxes, you can wait to see if they are rejected by your state government. In which case, you should be able to make any changes necessary and re-transmit your return when you are ready.
If you state return is accepted, you may need to file an amended state return. You should wait until after you receive any refund you may be due from your state before starting the amending process.
Follow these instructions to start the amending process:
- Log in to your TurboTax account
- Go to My TurboTax and click on My Tax Timeline
- Underneath your 2016 return summary, you will see Some Things You Can Do. Click on Amend (change) return
- You will be asked if you want to amend your return using TurboTax, and which return you want to amend.
- Once you are taken to the screen to amend your return, scroll to the bottom and click Start or Update next to Amend State
- Make any necessary changes
