2020 is the first year that I will not be claimed as a dependent, and I also recently got married and will be filing joint. Will we receive the new stimulus check?
Last year, my now wife and I were both claimed by our parents on their 2019 tax returns. We recently got married in August, and 2020 will be the first year that we are not claimed by our parents, and we will be filing as married - joint. We did not receive any stimulus checks due to our dependency status last year, and our parents did not receive money either due to our age (we were both finishing college). We fell in that odd-bracket of not counting for any money at all. With the new stimulus check coming in the near future, will we be able to receive any money? I know that it can't be based off of the 2020 filing status because obviously, taxes haven't been filed yet. How may we go about this? Thank you!
