2019

How can I file my 2019 taxes now?  They apparently didn't get the first one.  How do I do it?   How do I get the forms?  I know how to file them out.  I need to pay, and I don't have the money.  We have been sick with Covid-19 and weren't able to mess with e-mails.  Is there a payment plan?  Marcia Jordan

Get your taxes done using TurboTax

It is now too late to use online TurboTax for a 2019 return.  Online is closed down for 2019 returns and is in transition to 2020 software.  Now the only way to use TurboTax software for a 2019 return is to download desktop software to a full PC or Mac.

To file a return for a prior tax year

If you need to prepare a return for 2017, 2018 or 2019 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s)

Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.  The state return must be mailed in its own envelope to the state—-do not mail your state return to the IRS.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return.

Note: Desktop software requires a full PC or Mac—it cannot be installed to a mobile device

If you are getting a tax refund there is no penalty for filing after the deadline.  If you owe tax due, the late penalties and interest will be calculated by the IRS (or state) after they receive your tax return and the payment for the tax due as shown on the tax form.  You will receive a bill from the IRS/state for the penalties and interest owed.

If your return is a simple one you can get the forms from the IRS and prepare them by hand.
