fix nonsensical instructions about ID protection pin entry!
In the 2017 desktop program, on the screen where you tell the software you have an ID pin, it tells you "If you're filing by mail, you need to write in the IP Pin on Form 1040 in the box next to the signature. The IP PIN will not automatically show up on a printed copy."
I can confirm this is true.
For 2018 and 2019, it says almost the exact same thing: "If you're filing by mail, you need to write in the IP Pin on Form 1040 in the box next to the signature. The IP PIN will automatically show up on a printed copy."
So that seems contradictory.... its printed and I also write it in?
Back to 2017 on the printed instructions for 2017 its says "Enter your Identity Protection PIN in the box labeled 'If the IRS sent you an ID Protection PIN, enter here.' This box is located on the same line as the spouse's signature."
Again, that is correct.
In 2018 and 2019 the printed instructions ALSO say"Enter your Identity Protection PIN in the box labeled 'If the IRS sent you an ID Protection PIN, enter here.' This box is located on the same line as the spouse's signature."
But that is completely wrong. in 2018 and 2019 the number already shows up on the printout by the taxpaper's name, and the empty boxes on the spouse's line are for the spouse's ID pin.
So am I write that the software is totally wrong and nonsensical for 18 and 19 on this issue?
