IRS claims I'm dead. I am far from it
I e-filed my taxes in May, and received my state tax refund almost immediately, but federal tax never came. I figured it was due to the chaos of Covid and all the shut-downs, so I didn't think much of it and figured it would eventually show up in my bank account.
Yesterday I receive a letter in the mail from the IRS claiming that the reason why my refund has not been processed, is due to the fact that my SSN matches with that of someone who is deceased. I contacted the SSA this morning, and was told that I am in fact alive in their system, and that error must be on the IRS side.
I know many of you are aware of what an odyssey it is to get a hold of an agent, especially today since it's the last day to file your taxes. I've been on the phone all day with no luck. I've also contacted a tax advocate and left a voicemail, knowing it won't do much but I need to explore all avenues. I was given 20 days to reply to the letter, so safe to say I'm freaking out a little. I've never dealt or even knew something like this happens, but, lesson learned. Any advice on this situation would be greatly appreciated.
