I would like to follow the same solution as you, as I have issues importing Vanguard and Wells Fargo information and I too have the desktop version, but I'm a bit worried about the payment step.
The step in which you can save a file is "Step 3" of the "File" stage, right after the "Step 2 - Your refund/payment info". As I enter my credit card information in Step 2, the button to proceed is labeled "Pay Now", which got me a bit worried. Did you have to go through this and click the "Pay Now" button to download your file? and you still didn't get charged?
