I got audited for 2018 tax return. Recently I discovered that my employer has filed wrong w-2.
Hello
I filed 2018 tax return in Feb. 2019.
I got an IRS audit letter for my 2018 tax return in Oct. 2019. Now It's still on process.
A few days ago, I checked IRS tax transcripts. I discovered that my employer filed w-2 incorrected. When I originally received w-2, I found that my income was incorrect so I asked them to correct my w-2. Then my employer's CPA emailed me corrected w-2. And I filed 2018 tax return with that corrected w-2. However, I found that my income was wrong on my IRS Transcript (wage and income). In other words, my employer filed old w-2 to IRS. I guess that it made my audit begin. I've already submitted all documents to IRS examination in Nov. last year, although I am still waiting for their notice. So I have some questions.
1. How can I or employer fix incorrect income on IRS transcript? I reported employer already. Employer's CPA said that he would send w-2c to IRS and Social office. Is that enough? How long does it take to fix the problem?
2. For my audit process, should I send any documents for this issue to IRS examination? If so, what documents should I send them? I am just worried it can cause the audit process longer.
I have been so stressed out since last year. SO Frustrating...
