What is the standard deduction for 2019, filing jointly/married couple, where the wife died mid-2019, and both husband and wife were/are older than 65?
Wife dies April 2019 in her seventies. Surviving husband, not remarried, in his seventies, is now filing jointly for 2019 tax year.
2019 standard deduction for filing jointly = $24,400 plus bonus for each person over 65.
-Surviving husband being over 65yo = $1,300 bonus.
Is there an over 65yo $1,300 bonus for the deceased wife as well?
I think the standard deduction should be $27,000 (bonus for both), but just wanted to be sure.
Thank you.
