Get your taxes done using TurboTax
I'm sorry to hear about your situation.
If you have not yet received your refund, it is possible that your return may have been selected for additional review. Alternatively, it may have been offset. The IRS can offset refunds for many different things:
- Past-due child support;
- Federal agency non-tax debts;
- State income tax obligations; or
- Certain unemployment compensation debts owed to a state.
I recommend contacting the Department of Treasury's Bureau of Fiscal Service (BFS) Offset Line to get details on your offset. You can contact the BFS call center at 800-304-3107, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST. You will have to wait till the IRS reopens, though.
