I have been rejected after entering my ip pin. Do i need an ip pin for each person on the return. Myself, spouse and dependent son.?

It depends on who all has been a victim of ID theft and was assigned a 6-digit IP PIN by the IRS (or opted into the program in some states.)    Only you will know if 1, 2, or 3 of you were assigned IP PINs and who they are.

Each person who has an IP PIN assigned by the IRS  needs to enter it on the return.   The rejection error code and message should tell you which person the IP PIN rejection was for.

By the way, are you using a new 6-digit IP PIN for this year?  You can't use the same one that you may have used last year.  You have to use a new one. The IRS mailed new IP PINs for people to use during 2020 in late December 2019/January 2020.  If you didn't get a mailing with the new IP PIN, you can retrieve it online at this IRS webpage:

The IRS website says (pasted) :

  • If you, your spouse (if married filing jointly), or dependent had an IP PIN assigned prior to the filing season, it needs to be included on your return.
  • If you don't know the IP PIN necessary to file, check the return reject code to see whether the IP PIN requirement belongs to you, your spouse, or your dependent (as applicable). You'll need to retrieve that IP PIN prior to resubmitting your e-File return.
