Where you report your 1099-misc income depends on whether the income was reported in box 3 or box 7. Follow the directions below if you have a form 1099-misc with income reported in box 3:
- Log in and open your return
- Click the Federal tab from the left side of the screen
- Click the Wages & Income tab
- On the next page, scroll down to see all income
- Click Show More beside Other Common Income
- Click Start beside Form 1099-misc
- Enter the information from your form 1099-misc. As stated above, the program will ask you questions about the type of income you received.
If income was reported in box 7 of form 1099-misc, then it must be reported as self-employment income. Follow the directions below if you have a form 1099-misc with income reported in box 7:
- Log in and open your return
- Click the search field, type schedule c, and click the jump to link in the search results
- On the next page, Answer Yes to the question, "Did you have any self-employment income or expenses?"
- Once you enter information to set up your schedule c, you will be prompted to enter your income.
