Get your taxes done using TurboTax
For tax year 2019, if you did not have Affordable Care Act insurance (Marketplace insurance reported on Form 1095-A), you do not need to report your insurance on your federal tax return. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act reduced the penalty for not having health insurance to zero, so there is no need to report it on your federal return unless you received the Premium Tax Credit as part of the Affordable Care Act (reported on 1095-A).
However, if you received a 1095-A, you will want to enter it in TurboTax. Here's how to enter it:
- Click on Federal and then the Health Insurance tab at the top.
- Answer the questions about your health coverage.
- Select Yes to "Was anyone enrolled in any of these less common plans in 2019?" to enter your 1095-A form.
- On the That’s all we need on your 2019 coverage screen, click Done with Health.
