Yes, you would file a joint federal return and each of you would have to file a resident return for for the state you live in and a nonresident/part-year resident for the other state.  This can become quite burdensome.  Generally, it is best to file jointly however in your situation it may be best if you file married separately.  This TurboTax article was written to help couples decide the best way to file. Should You and Your Spouse File Taxes Jointly or Separately?
