No, you cannot remove your dependent if you have already filed your tax return. You will need to wait until your return is either accepted or rejected by the IRS.
If your return is accepted, you will need to file an amended return to remove the dependent. You will be able to amend your return starting 02/20/2020. Once this option is available, please follow these steps:
- Log into TurboTax and click on "Tax Home"
- Scroll down to Your tax return & documents (you may need to select Show)
- Select 2019 and then Amend (change) return
- Select Amend using TurboTax Online
- Follow the steps posted by JohnR1 in the above message to remove the dependent.
If your return is rejected, once you have correct the rejection error, you can update your tax return to remove your dependent before filing your return again.
