On TurboTax Online, from the menu on the left, choose My Info. Click Edit next to the dependent that you wish to make changes. On the next screen, choose the relationship. Click Continue. On the following screen, provide information related to the dependent as indicated. Click Continue.
The next screen is important for claiming dependents. You must indicate the number of months in the household for the year. Keep in mind, there are some absences, such as education, that are considered "temporary" and still count as time in the home. Click Continue.
Answer the questions on the screens that follow. If you can claim the individual as a dependent, you will come to a screen that says Good news! (Your dependent's name) qualifies as your dependent. Click Continue. Enter the social security number on the next screen. Click Continue. On the screen that follows, you will see a summary of the dependents claimed on your return.
