Get your taxes done using TurboTax
There are many possible reasons why your return is rejected when you entered a new dependent. Please try the following suggestions to help you resolve this:
- As Scorpion1 stated in the above message, verify that you have entered the dependent's social security number and name exactly as it is shown on the social security card.
- Delete the dependent's social security number and re-enter it (even if it appears correct.) There may be a space or another character entered that is causing your return to be rejected.
- Verify that you have entered the correct birth date. Was the dependent born in 2020? If so you would not be able to claim him/her in 2019.
- Is it possible someone else claimed the dependent already?
- Log out of TurboTax and clear your temporary internet files. Please click on this TurboTax article for instructions.
- Try using a different web browser to log into TurboTax
If your return is still rejected, you may have to print and mail your tax return.
