The problem is with your W-2. The Maryland Comptroller says that the state pickup is supposed to be entered in box 14, not box 17. In fact, there is a specific category in box 14 for the pickup.
Please talk to your employer and have them read this statement from the Maryland Comptroller, and ask for a corrected W-2.
