I would suggest you visit your local Social Security Office for qualifications to apply for an SSN for your children. Per IRS publication 972, the government does not require the qualifying child to have an SSN until the year 2018. It is interesting that even with the new law, the international IRS office still approved the Child Tax Credit on your 2018 tax return with only the ITIN ( Form W-7). I hope your child qualifies for the SSN so you can claim the benefits of this year's return.
