A 1095-C is not sent "instead" of a W-2. They are 2 different things. You should watch for both.
You'll still need to wait on a W-2 if you were an employee last year so you can report your wages, withholding, etc. Your employer is supposed to provide you one by January 31. If you don't receive it in the next few days, you can contact the employer and tell them you haven't received it. If you still don't get it by February 14, you can contact the IRS, and they will help you get your W-2 from your employer.
A 1095-C is for your records and is not filed. See this FAQ:

Intuit Tax Tip: What is a Form 1095-C?
[NOTE: This appears to be mainly written for employers, but it explains what it is, and has a little info useful to employees as well, but there is nothing for the employee recipient of the 1095-C to file.]
