If you qualified for the head of household filing status the program would have automatically given it to you. There is no way to self-select this filing status. You must have been able to answer yes to the qualifying questions. The qualifications for filing as head of household are as follows:
- Were unmarried as of December 31 this year
- Paid more than half the cost to run your (or a qualifying parent's) home this year(rent, mortgage, utilities, etc.)

Supported a qualifying person.
Please follow the directions below to see if your filing status is listed as the head of household:
- Log in and open your return.
- Click the My Info tab on the left side of the screen.
- On the next screen, your filing status is listed in the second box down.
