My spouse passed away in October 2016. In the beginning of 2017, a credit card in his name only, was cancelled, closed and "forgiven". This month, 2020, I received a 1099 C for the cancellation of debt, in his name only. I am in a community property state, am I responsible to file this for 2020? There was no estate when he passed and things have changed the past years that this will have an ill effect on my side.
