Each year, the filing season opens on a different date. This year, the filing season opened today.
A limited number of returns are selected early for processing in order to test the systems. This is why some folks have seen their returns accepted prior to today. Returns processed early do not see refunds sent earlier, however.
Pending status is normal at this point and not a cause for alarm.
You should see your return accepted (or rejected) no later than 48 hours of the opening of filing season. Which for 2019 was January 27, 2020. IRS Opens Filing Season January 27, 2020.
